Compass Therapeutic Support

UET Compass have education and therapy teams onsite working together. The education staff are employed by the Unity Trust and the therapy staff are employed by Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT).

Therapy

The therapy teams at each base are made up of staff from a range of different therapeutic backgrounds, which means we benefit from a wide range of knowledge and skills.

Each child has an allocated care co-ordinator within the therapy who is responsible for delivering and/or co-ordinating the therapy provision for that child. If a child is already open to mental health services (CAMHS) on admission, their care is typically transferred to the therapy team at UET Compass and the therapy team work with mental health services to support this transition.

Each child has their own care and risk plan based on their needs following an assessment with a member of the therapy team, which is regularly reviewed. This could indicate a range of interventions including individual therapy, family sessions, or ‘development sessions’ where the therapy team work closely with a member of education staff around a child. Each child also has group ‘therapy led’ sessions with their class team once per week, which focus on themes such as promoting social skills, communication, and working together.

We understand that sometimes therapy can bring up difficult thoughts, feelings or memories. Whilst sessions are not mandatory, it is an expectation that children and their families/carers engage in the therapeutic work identified and therefore non-attendance will be taken seriously and may lead to a review of whether UET Compass remains the best school for your child.
